Halloween!

When Zack woke up, the first thing he wanted to do had nothing to do with squats on the beach or patrolling. No, he saw his sword as soon as he opened his eyes and he wanted to play with it. It was cool and shiny looking. He had never felt so much pride in the fact that it was his! He hopped out of bed which seemed higher than usual and ran over to sword. It was lying on the ground next to his cot.
Sitting down on the floor next to the sword, he tilted his head to the side and rubbed the shiny parts. In his imagination, it was composed of a futuristic metal that could burn bad guys. He had the sudden urge to look over his shoulder as though he might be caught doing something he shouldn't be doing. He reached for the handle to pick it up, but it didn't budge apart from scooting a few inches further along the floor. He gave it a few more attempts, but all ended in failure at the surprising and sudden weight of the sword. Only after the third attempt did he notice the size of his hands compared to the hilt. That wasn't right.
"CLOUD!" Zack said in what could be classified as an outdoor voice by some. The sword forgotten, he wandered into the other rooms of the hut. If something was happening to him maybe it was happening to Cloud too. He pushed open the door to Cloud's room. The other man looked the same as he always did except for the fact that he was asleep. "Wake up, Cloud," he said, running up and jumping onto the bed. "Cloud?" he leaned down and put his small hand on the man's face, bringing his own face inches from Cloud's eyes. "Cloud," he whispered quietly into cupped hands.

After he had successfully woken up Cloud and discovered the candy that had magically appeared in the hut, Zack had gone outside to play. If people had called him a puppy before, he would have been described as a hyperactive puppy hopped on sugar now. He remembered it was Halloween. He wondered if the arrival of the candy meant other people had candy too.
If they did, he needed a costume.
***
The clothes box only had only given him one costume. It wasn't the super hero costume that he wanted, but it was better than the ballerina tutu that was absolutely not an option. That was a girl's costume.
[[So have him trying to get the clothing box to give him something else, play with him in the ocean or on the playground or anywhere else, or go trick-or-treating with him. Unless you are Cloud who gets Zack in his face. Open for the rest of the month or so.]]

He found Zack, sitting, He wouldn't have known it was him however, if the large blade they had perviously discussed hadn't been at his feet.
"You. Sword boy. What the fuck is going on?"

((This is totally a late, late tag. If it's too late, feel free to just ignore.))

Date: 2008-10-29 01:03 am (UTC)She and Cameron had both been spared, which she knew since she had felt the necessity of checking on him as soon as she learned what had happened. So far, the break proved two things: that she very much needed the time apart and that she loved him anyhow.
These were her thoughts as she strolled the island that morning, slipping between shadows to observe the inhabitants, large and newly small, enjoying their preparations for a holiday that was not hers. She did not, by her nature, ever lose track of where her feet were or what were around them, which was why it startled her almost beyond the telling of it to nearly run into a little boy in a fuzzy yellow suit with a sun on its belly.
"Before I begin cooing and fretting over you, perhaps I ought to ascertain you are not John Amsterdam or Harry Dresden," she remarked dryly, then knelt to see her erstwhile attacker.
